Cadiz

Cadiz is the capital of the Spanish province of Cadiz in the south - western part of Andalucia.
In Cadiz live over 160,000 inhabitants.

Cadiz is perhaps the oldest city in Europe and already in 1100 BC founded. Today Cadiz is a busy port, lying on a peninsula and surrounded by water.

The center of Cadiz is a maze of small streets and houses often superimposed in Moorish style.
When visiting Cadiz, you should definitely visit the quayside.

The Cathedral of Cadiz, the Catedral Nueva (the New Cathedral), is built on the site where another church was previously situated. It is one of the greatest neoclassical churches of Spain and the yellow tiles of the dome seems to turn into gold in the Spanish sunshine.
Besides the cathedral, the Museo de Cadiz, the Oratorio San Felipe Neri and the museo municipal de Cadiz are worth a visit in Cadiz.

The Torre Tavira in Cadiz, the official watchtower of Cadiz in the 18th century, is now a camera obscura.
From this tower you have a good view of Cadiz.

Carnival in Cadiz, los Carnavales, is celebrated in early February, and can be compared to the famous carnival of Rio.
During the reign of Franco, Cadiz was the only city where the carnival was celebrated.
