Bilbao

In the north of Spain is the Spanish city of Bilbao / Bilbo.

In the metropolis Bilbao live over 1,000,000 people.
In Bilbao, the Basque are clearly the minority, as many tens of thousands of migrants have come to Bilbao, drawn by jobs in Bilbao. Bilbao is the main Spanish port on the west coast of Spain.

Back in history, whaling and trade with West Indies made Bilbao famous and rich.
Now days, the mining, processing and export of environmentally unfriendly materials has contributed to the growth of Bilbao. In appearance Bilbao is a real working town in Spain.

First, one finds typical working-class districts in Bilbao and other beautiful villas are located in Bilbao. Bilbao has the past few years nailed to the road in Spain. Thus the extended and refurbished airport of Bilbao, the Guggenheim museum is opened, new roads around the center, partly underground, have been built and Bilbao even has a subway.

The old town of Bilbao, Casco Viejo, is the place for sightseeing. Although it must be said that beside the Guggenheim Museum and the museums Arqueologico & Bellas Artes, in addition to 2 churches there is not much to be seen in Bilbao. The Catedral de Santiago, located at the Spanish Plaza de Santiago in Bilbao, dates from around 1380. The Basilica de Nuestra Seņora de Begoņa is situated on a hill above the Casco Viejo in Bilbao.

If the weather is clear, which rarely occurs in Bilbao, you have a good view over the city of Bilbao on top of the Basilica de Nuestra Seņora de Begoņa.
